# Use your ChatGPT plan

URL: https://codepanel.ai/docs/chatgpt-plan

Link a ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan as a reviewer instead of an OpenAI API key: connecting, cost, usage limits and admin controls.

CodePanel signs in to OpenAI for you with Sign in with ChatGPT, and reviewers on the plan use its included usage. You still sign in to CodePanel with GitHub.

> [!NOTE]
> The option appears only where the operator has registered CodePanel with OpenAI. Without **Connect ChatGPT plan** in Settings, use an [OpenAI API key](/docs/providers-and-keys).

## Connect your plan

### 1. Open Provider keys

In **Settings → Provider keys**, find the **ChatGPT plan** row under OpenAI.

### 2. Sign in to OpenAI

Choose **Connect ChatGPT plan**, sign in and approve access. The row shows **Connected**.

### 3. Pick plan models

Your plan's models appear in the model picker under **ChatGPT plan**, for any reviewer or the orchestrator. With no panel yet, the [starter panel](/docs/reviewers#starter-panel) is built from them. **Refresh models** picks up models OpenAI adds later.

## Cost and usage limits

Plan calls cost $0 on CodePanel, spend no credits, and count toward no [budget or limit](/docs/budgets-and-limits). The **Spend & budget** tab still records their tokens as plan usage.

Your plan's own usage limits apply, shared with ChatGPT and other linked apps. At the limit, the reviewer on the plan is skipped for that round with "Your ChatGPT plan's usage limit is reached", and the rest of the panel carries on; check **ChatGPT Settings → Usage**, or use an API key if you review often. The plan takes fewer request options than the API: if it rejects reasoning effort for a model, the call is retried without it.

## Tokens and reconnecting

Sign-in uses PKCE and a single-use state that expires after ten minutes and works only for the account that started it. The access, refresh and ID tokens are encrypted at rest like API keys ([Security and data](/docs/security)) and never returned.

The access token lasts about an hour and is refreshed before each round, and once more if OpenAI rejects it. If refreshing fails (access revoked, or 30 days unused), the row shows **Needs reconnecting**, reviewers on the plan fail with "Reconnect your ChatGPT plan in Settings", and **Reconnect** fixes it.

## Disconnect

Choose **Disconnect** on the row. CodePanel asks OpenAI to revoke its tokens and deletes them, and says so if OpenAI doesn't confirm; then remove CodePanel under **ChatGPT Settings → Connected apps**. Reviewers on the plan fail until you pick another model.

## Edge cases

| Situation | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Workspace admin disallows it | On ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, admins decide whether members can use their plan in other apps. If not allowed, OpenAI refuses the sign-in or later calls, and CodePanel says the plan can't be used here. |
| You are away | Reviews start from GitHub events, so the plan is used whenever a pull request is opened or updated. To stop that, disconnect it. |
| Claude subscription | Not possible: Anthropic doesn't allow Claude Free, Pro or Max in other apps. Use an [Anthropic API key](/docs/providers-and-keys). |
